BathySwath-2 STD

COMPARISON OF BATHYMETRIC SYSTEMS
Both the interferometric multibeams and beamforming multibeams measure range and angle to a series of points on the seabed. A beamformer mathematically forms a set of “beams”, and detects the range to the seabed in each beam. An interferometer measures the angle of the incoming sound wave fronts in a time sequence of samples. Slant range is obtained from the time of the sample and speed of sound.

If you want to make sure the system that you intend to purchase is the right one for your operational needs then take some time to read this comparative study.

Hydrographic standards and products
Rijkswaterstaat and the Hydrographic Service have jointly created the Dutch Hydrographic Standards, containing the quality requirements for hydrographic measurements. These measurements provide Rijkswaterstaat with insight into the composition of the water, currents and depths of our waters.

Regulations for measurements
Rijkswaterstaat uses the Rijkswaterstaat Standard Regulations (RWSVs) to perform hydographic measurements. These regulations apply to all measurements made by Rijkswaterstaat’s own measuring and information services and to measurements made by external parties on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat. By using these standards, Rijkswaterstaat and the Hydrographic Service (external link) have access to information of clearly defined quality.

To assess whether your measurement configuration can demonstrably meet the requirements set in the Dutch hydrographic standards, you can use the AMUST tool.

TU Delft has tested the BathySwath II STD to see if it meets the standards set by the Rijkswaterstaat. Using Python analysis tool TU Delft has been able to establish, that the BathySwath II STD is the only interferometric sounding system, which meets AMUST.
